“CANNABIS CULTURE” – A new phenomenon in Colorado Culture.
AlamedaWellnessCenter – A fun new dispensary here in the Denver area and we now have a hot new strain. G-13 a strain of very potent marijuana, supposedly originally grown by the government. Its an indica that packs a heavy body high and a good punch it has a sweet and dank scent to it along with a sweet smell and although the taste isn’t overpowering this plant was breed for THC not flavor. Having nearly double the THC content of most strains. Although, it’s actually said to be stolen from the U.S. Government down in the Mississippi area, although, there is no proof to support this myth. It’s a fave strain amongst many of our patients, and I recommend anyone that loves a good kick to give it a try.
Check out the Denve Patient Group, a Denver marijuana dispensary right downtown. They carry 20 great strains, most being California strains not available anywhere else in Denver. The Denver Patient Group also has great edibles and smoking accessories. Click on the banner below to find more about one of the top Denver dispensaries!
As the laws are changing, Medical Marijuana Dispensaries are opening, and tens of thousands of people are receiving their Medical Marijuana Cards, marijuana is becoming more accepted by the general public. But, many people are concerned about their health and want a safer alternative to smoking joints, pipes, or water-pipes. This doesn't mean people necessarily want to eat Medical Marijuana Edibles, but a new way to smoke without coughing and filling their lungs with harsh toxins.
As doctors and marijuana dispensaries are educating their patients, the most common question is becoming, "what's the safest and healthiest way to smoke?" Doctors and dispensaries are all telling people that vaporizers are the best way to consume Medical Marijuana. Although, people are learning that vaporizing your product is the healthiest and safest way to smoke, people are unclear as to why this is. So, let's go over what a vaporizers job is and why they are so highly recommended:
When you smoke a joint, out of a pipe, or a water-pipe, you burn your Medical Marijuana with a 500 degree flame. At that temperature, the oils in your Medical Marijuana releases toxins, tar, and carcinogens. Also, when smoking, the number one harm for your lungs is the HEAT. The toxins, tar, and carcinogens are still dangerous, but not as dangerous as the heat. The purpose of a vaporizer is that it's a heating element that heats up your Medical Marijuana. Your vaporizer should heat up your Medical Marijuana between 266-375 degrees. The optimal temperature when using a vaporizer is 300 degrees, however, most people keep the temperature between 288-312 degrees. At this temperature, the oils in your Medical Marijuana will not release toxins, tars, or carcinogens, and your lungs will not be damaged from the heat. Also, when you smoke out of a joint, pipe, or water-pipe, you only consume 56% of THC where with a vaporizer, you consume 96% of THC.
Furthermore, vaporizers have other advantages that aren't completely health related. For example, when you smoke out of a vaporizer, the vaporizers are practically odorless and tasteless. Also, you don't cough nearly as much, if at all. Last but not least, vaporizers are used for pain management. The high that you get from a vaporizer is a completely different high than when you smoke a joint, out of a pipe, or a water-pipe. You will feel more of a body high and you will notice that your pain is gone. Don't be fooled though; when you start using a vaporizer, you won't feel like anything is happening except that your pain is gone until you stand up or move around. It is highly recommended that you smoke small amounts at a time, especially since you are consuming so much more THC than normal.
Finally, some other advantages of smoking out of a vaporizer is that you don't completely "cook" your bowl. This means you can collect and save your bowl after it's finished - when you save up a fair amount, you can then cook with your product as there is still some THC contents in your left over bowl. You can make butters, tinctures, baking goods, and so one and so forth. Some people will also pack a bowl and smoke the rest of the product after vaporizing to get the head-high they are used too.
All in all, vaporizers are healthier than traditional smoking, safer than traditional smoking, helps you consume less Medical Marijuana, and is great for pain management. If you haven't tried or purchased a vaporizer, I highly recommend doing so. You can stop down at High Fashion Glass, located at 42 S. Broadway, and their trained staff can answer any questions you may have and also recommend a specific vape for you to try. HIGH FASHION GLASS 42 S. BROADWAY DENVER, CO, 80209 303 766 5437
One of my faves, and a true Colorado favorite! A super heady strain that is a high yielding plant; anywhere from 5lbs per marijuana plant to an 8ounces yield. A strong bud that smokes hard, it’s a powerful sativa/indica hybrid blend, and can be rather stinky when properly grown.
Sour Diesel is a strain that will never let you down. A great clean high that lasts anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours, full of sparkly THC crystals it’s sure to please any crowd. Hence, I even found someone that said “..it tastes like you are sipping on Minute Maid lemonade while driving in a car with the windows down as you speed past the still fresh carcass of a road kill skunk.”
It’s not a top of the line Medicine. As it’s always a good find and usually reasonably priced anywhere you go. A superior find for anyone’s medicine cabinet, with an absolutely luminous flavor, that brings back those early childhood memories of going into the old fashioned candy stores.
If you haven’t found a good SourD yet? You’re certainly missing out.
We carry some amazing Sour D that one of our personal growers has put his own logo & label on. As he’s very confidant and believes in it that much! Again a killer find anywhere you may go.
What’s more dangerous? Being able to buy shot after shot at a local bar and leave drunk or being able to smoke marijuana in a private dispensary and leave high? I hear a lot of people making the argument that if you can buy and drink alcohol in a bar you should be able to consume marijuana in a dispensary. Let’s look at the facts first, and then you can give your answer.
The US Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) records instances of drug mentions in medical examiners reports, and though marijuana is mentioned, it is usually in combination with alcohol or other drugs. Marijuana alone has not been shown to cause an overdose death. So let’s say these numbers are off a little… heck I’ll multiply it by 100 so we’ll say 100 deaths a year from Marijuana. If you look at report from the same company, they state “In 2006, a total of 22,073 persons died of alcohol-induced causes in the United States”. Keep in mind neither of these statistics include accidents caused by driving under the influence. When you include these, alcohol reaches numbers in the 85,000.
In my opinion, what this data represents is it isn't possible to ingest a fatal dose of THC (the active compound in marijuana) from smoking or eating marijuana. On the flip side, lots of alcohol in a brief period of time can lead to alcohol poisoning, an emergency medical condition that can be fatal.
So my question is, why can ANYONE over the age of 21, legally buy and consume alcohol, (a substance if abused can lead to death) but individuals cannot consume a drug that cannot kill someone? The Denver City Council just passed an ordinance (that will go into effect in March) that prevents individuals from medicating or consuming marijuana in a dispensary. This is absolute crap!
Get this…a man is now being charged with 1st degree murder and another for assault, all for attempted robbery in a Medical Marijuana Dispensary! In my opinion that’s outrageous! Marijuana is said to be the “Gateway Drug,” but whatever happened to peace, love, and happiness for all? At the same time, there is the 1st medical cannabis Jury Victory in Boulder County, a case that will certainly go down in the history books.
Colorado is unquestionably carving history and leading the way as far as Medical Marijuana. Even the Westword is making Global news, reaching as far as China and Australia! While the Westword is making Global news, most news papers are failing. My patients constantly mention that they receive texts and emails from their friends in Chicago, NYC, and Florida , just to name a few, asking “What’s going on in Colorado?”
Colorado’s Legislature goes back into session next Wednesday, January 13th and I’m certain that Medical Marijuana and Marijuana Dispensaries will be a hot topic for discussion. Caregiver laws, rights, and responsibilities will most likely be the hottest piece of the discussion. Furthermore, regulating Edibles/Tinctures, how, and where they are made for patients. We may also see taxes implemented by the end of the session.
Read the proposed ordinance @ www.DenverGov.org – Public Comment regarding this ordinance can be made at the City and County building on January 11th @ 5pm.
Additionally, the “OFF THE STEPS & INTO THE HOUSE” Rally 11:30-2:00pm is on January 14, 2010 Rally Sponsored by Mile High NORML
It was just a matter of time before we had some new regulations in regards to Amendment 20. It seems that City of Denver is going to be among the first to regulate Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in Denver. If the ordinance were to go through, the bill would set a 1,000 foot distance requirement from schools and other dispensaries, not so bad right? Well, here is the rest, if you are a felon, convicted within the last 5 years and you currently own a dispensary, you will have to close shop. For those dispensaries that have eateries or lounges for onsite consumption of Marijuana, this will not be allowed. Also, if you are interested in applying for a license, you are going to have to fork over $2,000.00 just for the application and another $3,000.00 for the year!
The Public Hearing and Final Reading will be held at the City Council Meeting on Monday, January 11, 2010. The Council Meeting and Public Hearing should be held at Council Chambers in Room 450 of the City and County Building at 1437 Bannock Street. If you wish to speak at the Public Hearing, you must sigh up during the recess of Council. If you do not sign up during the recess of Council, you will not be given the opportunity to speak. The timate that Council recesses varies from week to week, so it is recommended that you be there by 5:30 pm to be given the opportunity to sign up and voice your opinion on this matter.

For the past several years, I've been harboring a fantasy, a last political crusade for the baby-boom generation. We, who started on the path of righteousness, marching for civil rights and against the war in Vietnam, need to find an appropriately high-minded approach to life's exit ramp. In this case, I mean the high-minded part literally. And so, a deal: give us drugs, after a certain age — say, 80 — all drugs, any drugs we want. In return, we will give you our driver's licenses. (I mean, can you imagine how terrifying a nation of decrepit, solipsistic 90-year-old boomers behind the wheel would be?) We'll let you proceed with your lives — much of which will be spent paying for our retirement, in any case — without having to hear us complain about our every ache and reflux. We'll be too busy exploring altered states of consciousness. I even have a slogan for the campaign: "Tune in, turn on, drop dead."
A fantasy, I suppose. But, beneath the furious roil of the economic crisis, a national conversation has quietly begun about the irrationality of our drug laws. It is going on in state legislatures, like New York's, where the draconian Rockefeller drug laws are up for review; in other states, from California to Massachusetts, various forms of marijuana decriminalization are being enacted. And it has reached the floor of Congress, where Senators Jim Webb and Arlen Specter have proposed a major prison-reform package, which would directly address drug-sentencing policy.
